  • IMPORTANT 2027 CHANGE: AB 515 (Stats. 2025, ch. 559) repeals this version of CCP 632 on Jan. 1, 2027 and replaces it with a version under which 'The request must be made in writing, or orally if there is an official record of the proceeding being transcribed, prior to the submission of the matter for decision.' For trials submitted on or after Jan. 1, 2027 this 10-day rule will no longer apply; CRC 3.1590 may be amended to conform. Short trials (one day or under 8 hours) already require the request before submission. AMBIGUITY: CCP 632 runs from announcement; CRC 3.1590(d) runs from announcement or service, whichever is later; the conservative date runs from announcement. Extensions: CCP 1013 is generally applied when the tentative is served by mail (CRC 3.1590(d)), but not when it is announced in open court. Statement of decision on bifurcated issues: CRC 3.1591 (not modeled). TRANSITION: if the tentative is announced on or after 2026-12-22, the 10-day period ends in 2027 after the 632 (Sec. 2) before-submission rule takes effect; request a statement of decision before submission or by Dec. 31, 2026.
