- Counting backward from a hearing or trial, when the day lands on a weekend or holiday we use the earlier court day. The rules do not state the direction expressly; confirm with the court.
- Default exchange date (90 days, not 40 days as the task suggested). An agreed date or a court-set date controls instead. Lists are deposited with the clerk and served, not filed. Also limited by ed_valuation_exchange_not_before_9_months (the date of exchange may not be earlier than nine months after commencement unless the parties agree). trial_continuance 'unclear': 1258.220 measures from 'commencement of the trial on the issue of compensation', which reads as the actual (continued) trial date, but the statute does not address continuances; confirm with the court or by stipulation. Roll to previous court day is conservative; 1258.220 has no roll rule.
- If the clerk's office is closed or inaccessible on the last day (weather, emergency or local closure orders), the deadline may be extended. Check local orders.
This calculator applies the cited rules to the dates you enter. It is not legal advice. Court orders, local rules, and case-specific facts can change a deadline; verify before relying on it. Rule set pending attorney review.
