How these dates affect deadlines
When a filing deadline lands on a holiday or a weekend, the rules usually move it to the next day the court is open; deadlines counted backward from a hearing move earlier. The deadline calculator applies this table automatically and shows each step with the rule text.

This list = days state offices close under Gov. Code 19853 (state employee holidays), plus Saturdays/Sundays handled by the engine. It DIFFERS from the CA judicial (court) calendar: (1) Lincoln Day (Feb 12), Juneteenth (June 19) and Native American Day (4th Friday Sept) are judicial holidays under CCP 135 but are NOT state employee holidays (19853(e) only lets employees swap a personal holiday for Juneteenth/Native American Day/Lunar New Year/Genocide Remembrance Day/Diwali); state agency offices are open. (2) 19853(b) shifts only Sunday holidays (to Monday) and a Saturday Veterans Day (to Friday); there is NO Friday observance when July 4 (2026) or December 25 (2027) falls on Saturday, unlike courts (July 3, 2026; Dec 24, 2027 court closures). (3) Gov. Code 6707 and 8 CCR 32130 (PERB) use the broader Gov. Code 6700/6701 list, so for PERB, SPB and APA filings a last day on Lincoln Day, Lunar New Year (2026-02-17, 2027-02-06 computed, uncertain), Genocide Remembrance Day (Apr 24), Juneteenth, Admission Day (Sept 9), Native American Day, Columbus Day (2nd Mon Oct) or Diwali arguably rolls to the next business day even though offices are open; this list does NOT include those days, so computed dates may be one or more days earlier than the law allows (conservative). (4) CUIAB (22 CCR 5000) and court filings use CCP 12a/135 judicial holidays; for court-filed rules use the CA judicial calendar. (5) Gov. Code 6701(c) lets only the Legislature move March 31; courts.ca.gov lists Farmworkers Day 2027 as Friday April 9 for courts. Whether state agencies close March 31, 2027 or another day was not verified against a CalHR 2027 calendar (uncertain). Agencies may also close for Governor-proclaimed days (19853(a)) and individual office closures; not modeled. Uncertain entries: for FORWARD deadlines treat as a business day (do not extend); for BACKWARD deadlines treat as a holiday.
