Federal court deadline calculator

Pick a deadline and enter the trigger date. The result applies Fed. R. Bankr. P. 9006(a) (counting, weekends and court holidays), service-method extensions where the law allows them, and the rule for that deadline, with each step and citation shown. Scope: National rules only (no local rules): Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure as in force on 2026-10-23 (December 1, 2025 edition published by the U.S. Courts, which incorporates the restyled rules effective December 1, 2024 and the December 1, 2025 amendments), selected Bankruptcy Code (11 U.S.C.) deadlines, and 28 U.S.C. 158 for appeals. Local rules, general orders, and case-specific orders frequently change these defaults and must be checked. PENDING CHANGE: amendments to Rules 1007, 2007.1, 3001, 3018, 5009, 9006, 9014, and 9017 and new Rule 7043 take effect December 1, 2026 (Supreme Court order of April 8, 2026, https://www.uscourts.gov/sites/default/files/document/2026_congressional_package_final.pdf); none of them changes a day count in this file except the abrogation of the Rule 1007(c)(4) financial-management-course deadline (see not_modeled). Further amendments are pending for December 1, 2027 (Rule 2002) and proposed for December 1, 2028 (Rules 2003, 5005, 8011, 9006, 9036, 9037) per https://www.uscourts.gov/forms-rules/pending-rules-and-forms-amendments. TEXT CONVENTION: the official rule and statute text uses em dashes; to comply with the no-em-dash requirement, each em dash in a quote is rendered as two hyphens (--). Small-capital headings in the PDF were not quoted, and curly apostrophes and quotation marks in the PDF are rendered as straight ASCII characters. Statute quotes are from the govinfo.gov United States Code 2024 edition (most recent edition posted; uscode.house.gov returned server errors on 2026-10-23); amendments enacted after that edition's currency date would not be reflected and should be checked.. Rules current as of 2026-10-23.

The following rules apply in computing any time period specified in these rules, in the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, in any local rule or court order, or in any statute that does not specify a method of computing time. (1) Period Stated in Days or a Longer Unit. When the period is stated in days or a longer unit of time: (A) exclude the day of the event that triggers the period; (B) count every day, including intermediate Saturdays, Sundays, and legal holidays; and (C) include the last day of the period, but if the last day is a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, the period continues to run until the end of the next day that is not a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday.

  • Covers schedules of assets and liabilities, income and expenditures, executory contracts, statement of financial affairs, payment advices, 521(c) record (1007(b)(1)), and the current monthly income / means-test forms (Forms 122A, 122B, 122C; 1007(b)(4)-(6)). Extendable on motion for cause (1007(c)(7)), except as 11 U.S.C. 1116(3) provides for small business cases. If not filed, see 11 U.S.C. 521(i) automatic dismissal (rule auto_dismissal_521i). Many districts dismiss for failure to file by local procedure; check local rules.
  • If the clerk's office is closed or inaccessible on the last day (weather, emergency or local closure orders), the deadline may be extended. Check local orders.

This calculator applies the cited rules to the dates you enter. It is not legal advice. Court orders, local rules, and case-specific facts can change a deadline; verify before relying on it. Rule set pending attorney review.
